STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Lily Haluska and
Kayla Martin recorded a hit apiece in Colgate Softball's 11-1 loss to South Dakota State Sunday afternoon at Tarleton State.
Colgate jumped out to a promising start when Analisa Raffaelli scored on a fielder's choice in the top of the first. South Dakota responded with three runs in the home half of the inning, and stretched its lead to 6-1 on the heels of a two-run home run in the bottom of the second.
After scoring nine runs in Friday's nightcap against Tarleton State, Colgate's offense struggled to get into a rhythm on Sunday. Sydney Berg was Colgate's next baserunner in the top of the fifth after working a two-out walk, but she was stranded at first after an inning-ending groundout.
Colgate's only two hits came in the sixth, when Haluska singled with two outs and Martin followed with a knock down the right-field line, but a strikeout left South Dakota ahead 8-1. The Jackrabbits then sealed it in the bottom half with a three-run homer to trigger the eight-run rule.
