Softball Drops Two in Tampa

Taveras’ third homer highlights Day 1 in South Florida

TAMPA, Fla. – Colgate Softball fell short in both ends of Friday's doubleheader, falling to Indiana 8-0 and St. Joe's 5-1 at the USF Softball Stadium.

Six Raiders recorded at least one hit on the day, but Colgate's lone run came off the bat of Marina Taveras, who bashed her third home run of the season. Izzy Ervin-Agudelo paced the offense with two hits, while Kayla Martin added a double.

Game 1 | Indiana 8, Colgate 0 (6)

Alexa Acker fired three straight hitless innings before Indiana took the lead with four runs on four hits aided by an error in the bottom of the fourth. An RBI triple from Goins extended the Hoosiers' lead to 4-0 through four innings.

Colgate struggled to find its offense, finishing with two hits in the game. Lily Haluska picked up where she left off last weekend by going 1-for-2, while Martin ripped a double. The Hoosiers added two runs in the fifth and two runs in the sixth to trigger the eight-run rule.

Acker allowed eight runs (three earned) on six hits while striking out two over five innings pitched.

Game 2 | St. Joe's 5, Colgate 1

Taveras' solo blast in the top of the second provided the scoring for Colgate in the nightcap. Her third home run of the season trimmed an early deficit to a one-run game before St. Joe's added an RBI single in the home half of the second inning to build a 3-1 advantage.

The Raiders advanced runners in scoring position in the fourth and fifth innings, but strikeouts ended both scoring threats. St. Joe's tacked on two more in the sixth and Colgate's rally came up short in the seventh, as the Raiders dropped their second game of the day, 5-1.

Ervin-Agudelo led Colgate's offense with two hits. In addition to Taveras, Analisa Raffaelli and Tealla Rivera each picked up one hit apiece. Kelcie McGraw threw 5 2/3 innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on seven hits while striking out three.
