DURHAM, N.H. - Despite cutting the deficit to one with 15 minutes left in the third period, the Raiders were unable to find a third and fell 3-2 to New Hampshire at Whittemore Center on Sunday night.
COACH HARDER'S COMMENTS
"They're a really good team. They play in a tough league as do we. I think we're ready for league play. I think we're ready to get back. ?We're going to spend the next few days healing up a little bit. We've got some nagging injuries, and then right back to work after that. We are really excited for the sprint right through the finish here."
HOW IT HAPPENED
Despite Colgate's early efforts, including a blocked shot by Antonio Fernandez and multiple attempts by Simon Labelle and Max Nagel, they struggled to find the back of the net. Reid Dyck was active in goal, making several saves to keep the game close.
Colgate faced two penalties in the period, with the Wildcats converting on the second power play as Nick Ring scored the opening goal at 12:33. Though Colgate had a power-play opportunity later in the period, they could not capitalize, and the period closed with Colgate trailing 1-0.
Jake Schneider broke a scoreless stretch in the second period with a goal at 6:46, assisted by Jacob Napier and Easton Wainwright, bringing the team level with the Wildcats. The Wildcats responded quickly with a goal from Morgan Winters at 5:54, assisted by Nick Ring and Josh Player.
Throughout the period, Colgate maintained pressure with several attempts on goal, including shots from Simon Labelle and Brett Merner, but were consistently met by saves from the Wildcats' goalie, Kyle Chauvette. The period concluded with Colgate trailing 2-1.
The Wildcats extended their lead early in the third period when J.P. Turner scored at 18:40 with assists from Morgan Winters and Conner de Haro. However, Colgate responded with a goal from Max Nagel at 14:50, assisted by Isaiah Norlin and Luke Malboeuf, narrowing the deficit to 3-2.
Colgate continued to apply pressure with several shot attempts, but the Wildcats maintained their defensive stance. Despite removing the goalie for an extra attacker late in the period, Colgate was unable to level the score. The period concluded with a 3-2 victory for the Wildcats.
GAME NOTES
- Jake Schneider scored for the second straight game, the last time Schneider scored in back-to-back games was his first year Jan. 20 and 26, 2024.
- Reid Dyck made 33 saves in net, his fifth 30+ save performance of the season.
- Isaiah Norlin posted his 12th assist of the season, the blueliner ranks second among defenders in the ECAC.
- The Raiders concluded non-conference play with a 3-8-1 record.
