HAMILTON - In a back-and-forth game,
Emma Beauchamp's second period goal would prove to be the difference, as Colgate took home their third straight victory, defeating Dartmouth 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Class of 1965 Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Looking to continue their recent stretch of strong performances, the Raiders took advantage of a power play goal to go ahead early. Casey Borgiel cashed in at 2:17, assisted by goaltender Farah Walker, to take a 1-0 lead.
After jumping in front, the Raiders defense continued to excel, weathering a power play to maintain their advantage over the Big Green. However, Dartmouth eventually found the back of the net through Ella Inglish at 15:53, assisted by Hamilton Doster and Bridget Pringle on the power play, leveling Saturday's matchup at one.Â
Despite allowing their first goal in over 80 minutes, Colgate wasted no time in responding, with Chloe Goofers giving the Raiders the lead right back at 17:24, assisted by Madeline Palumbo and Sydney Sawyer. The Raiders would take their 2-1 lead over Dartmouth to the intermission.
Colgate began the second period with a flurry of chances, but were unable to beat Dartmouth's Jiahui Zhan in goal. That changed at 10:41, when the Raiders doubled their advantage with a goal by Emma Beauchamp with assists from Elyssa Biederman and Sydney Sawyer.
Once again, the Big Green would respond with a goal, drawing to within one when Olivia Paidosh scored at 14:52, assisted by Maura Fiorenza and Miami Jones, to make it 3-2. The period would end with Colgate leading by a goal.
Looking to secure their third straight win in the final 20 minutes, Colgate had several big chances to put the game away, but Dartmouth's defense kept them in the game through the first half of the period.
From there, it was a defensive battle, with neither team able to score the crucial next goal. That goal never came, and Colgate secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory with strong third period defense.
