DURHAM, N.H. - Jake Schneider picked up a rebound in the high slot and fired it top shelf with 1:13 left in the game to propel Colgate to a 3-2 win over New Hampshire at Whittemore Center on Saturday night.
The Raiders fell behind twice during the game and overcame the one-goal deficits in the first and second period. Reid Dyck made 24 saves in between the pipes to secure his seventh win of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Colgate showed early offensive pressure with a shot from Daniel Panetta, though the initial attempt went wide. Despite an early setback with Josh Niedermayer's penalty, resulting in a power-play goal for New Hampshire by Morgan Winters, Colgate responded effectively.
Max Nagel assisted Ryan Sullivan to score an even-strength goal at 12:47, leveling the score at 1-1. Colgate's defense, led by Dyck, managed to hold the Wildcats scoreless for the remainder of the period, even withstanding another power play late in the frame. The first period concluded with the score knotted up at one apiece.
Colgate began the second period with immediate offensive pressure, winning the initial faceoff and recording three quick shots on goal, all saved by the Wildcats' Kyle Chauvette. Despite this early surge, New Hampshire capitalized first with a goal from Jacob Newcombe at 14:04, assisted by Brendan Fitzgerald and Conner de Haro, pushing the score to 2-1 in favor of the home team.
Colgate responded with resilience after falling behind. At 5:00, Simon Labelle scored unassisted to level the game at 2-2. The period saw both teams trading shots, but neither side was able to break the deadlock before the end of the period.
Colgate secured the momentum in the third period with consistent pressure on the Wildcats' defense. Despite several blocked attempts, including shots by Antonio Fernandez and Labelle, Dyck successfully turned aside multiple shots to maintain the lead. Colgate's persistence paid off with 1:13 remaining when Jake Schneider scored the game-winning goal, assisted by Isaiah Norlin and Easton Wainwright.
With the score at 3-2 in favor of Colgate, New Hampshire pulled their goalie for an extra attacker, but Colgate's defense held firm. The game concluded with Colgate maintaining their one-goal advantage, sealing a 3-2 victory.
