HAMILTON - A late goal from the Seawolves thwarted Colgate from earning a result as the Raiders fell 2-1 to Stony Brook in Hamilton on Sunday afternoon.
COACH HOKANSON'S COMMENTS
"Tough finish to a very competitive game today. Sad because I feel the result isn't indicative of the way the game felt, but that's soccer sometimes. Continuing to learn lessons as the year goes on which is the important and the real purpose of non-conference play. I feel as though we are growing in a lot of ways and that is super positive. Another tough week of games ahead, so we'll look forward to getting back to it."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Stony Brook took the lead 20 minutes in after a deflected cross ended up right in front of the Raiders goal mouth.
- The Raiders managed to get a shot from distance by Molly Richards but the Seawolves goalkeeper handled it.
- Colgate trailed 1-0 after the first 45 minutes of action.
- Ana Schremp and Gillian Yonce each had quality chances to equalize early in the second half but the Stony Brook keeper matched each effort.
- In the 66th minute, Richards was able to spring Ari Bezanson in behind the Seawolves defense. Bezanson cut inside onto her right foot and fired it past the goalkeeper into the top left corner.
- Stony Brook was able to regain its lead with just over five minutes left as a rebound was bumbled into the Raiders net.
- Â Colgate was unable to manufacture another chance before the time expired and fell 2-1 on home turf.
GAME NOTES
