Raiders Drop Close Game to Bucknell

Rory Connor records career-high 11 points in 18-17 loss

HAMILTON — The No. 15 Raiders fell 18-17 to Bucknell Saturday afternoon at Andy Kerr Stadium after the Bison scored two late goals to pull ahead.

Rory Connor notched a career-high 10 points with five goals and five assists. Ryan Favaro logged six points (3G, 3A), while Liam Connor, Jack Turner contributed five points.

COACH KARWECK'S COMMENTS
"I didn't do a good enough job this week preparing the guys. In the Patriot League, you're going to get everyone's best game, and that's what we want. I told the players in the locker room we have exactly the guys we need to do what we need on the field, and frankly, I didn't put them in a position to do so. This one stings because we have been doing so many good things. We were a little undisciplined and sloppy in some areas and that falls on me."

HOW IT HAPPENED

Connor Davis scored the game-winning goal for Bucknell with 4:01 left in the fourth. One minute prior the Bison tied the game at 17-17.
The Raiders had a chance to tie the game late. R. Connor fired a shot wide with seven seconds left and Hunter Drouin had an attempt saved as time expired.
R. Connnor had put the Raiders up 17-16 with 6:18 remaining.
The teams exchanged blows at the start of the final quarter, L. Connor scored twice at the beginning of the frame, including a goal that gave the Raiders a 16-15 advantage, but the Bison responded each time.
Bucknell ended the third quarter on a 4-1 run to pull within one at 14-13. Turner found the back of the net following a faceoff win and feed from Kyle Rummel at the 4:13 mark to put the score at 14-11.
The Raiders went on a 3-0 run to start the third, with two straight from R. Connor and one from Turner. Bucknell then answered with two in a row to get back within two at 13-11.
Colgate took a 10-9 lead into the halftime locker room following a Bison goal late in the second frame.
After Bucknell notched the first two tallies of the second, the Raiders went on a 7-0 run to pull ahead. Andrew Kiefer scored between a pair of goals from R. Connor. L. Connor then notched a goal, making it 10-8 Colgate.
Turner had put one in and Ryan Favaro netted back-to-back tallies, pulling the Raiders within two at 8-6 at the 7:12 mark.
The Connor brothers went back-to-back to knot the score at 3-3 with 3:53 left in the opening frame but Bucknell scored three straight to take a 6-3 lead at the end of the quarter.
Bucknell jumped out to a 3-1 lead with Turner netting the Raiders' goal just over three and a half minutes into the quarter.

GAME NOTES

R. Connor became the second Raider to log 10 points this season after Turner did so against UAlbany.
L. Connor's five points came by a career-high four goals and one assist.
Favaro posted a career-best with his six points, also logging a career-high three helpers.
John Carrabine recorded three caused turnovers.
Rummel went 13-of-25 from the faceoff 'x' and scooped up a team-high five ground balls.
Thomas Lala and Max Yates picked up three ground balls.
