POTSDAM, N.Y. - Clarkson scored the game's final two goals in the third period to defeat the Colgate University men's hockey team 5-3 on Saturday evening inside Cheel Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Isaiah Norlin scored for the second consecutive night 20 seconds into the third period, tying the game at 3-3. Norlin made a move at the blue line, drifting toward the center of the point before rifling a wrist shot through traffic in front to draw even at three goals aside.
Clarkson's Justin Cotes found the back of the net just over a minute later, giving the home team the lead for good. Despite multiple chances to tie the game and a steady dose of offensive pressure, the Golden Knights scored an empty-netter to seal the 5-3 decision.
Final shots were 31-27 in favor of Clarkson. The Raiders finished 1-for-3 on the power play and held the Golden Knights empty on four man-advantage opportunities. Reid Dyck stopped 26 shots between the pipes for Colgate.
Clarkson found the only goal in the first term when Matthew Mayich beat the Raider defense for a 1-0 lead at the 11:06 mark.
Joshua Niedermayer tied things up four minutes into the second stanza, and then
Michael Neumeier blasted home a one-timer on the man-advantage to tie the game at 2-2.
The home team capped off a busy second period, which saw four total goals scored, with a tally by Jared Mangan with 12 seconds left in the frame to take a 3-2 lead into the final period.
