Turnovers Seal Colgate’s Fate at Syracuse

Ferguson matches her career-high nine points

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Colgate (4–6) fell to Syracuse (9–1), 88–42, at the JMA Wireless Dome. Syracuse shot 0.44 percent from the floor (33–75) to remain undefeated on its home court.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Colgate had trouble generating offense early as Syracuse shot 5-for-8 from the floor to build a 14–0 start. Ella Mahaffey put Colgate on the board with a 3-pointer, followed by Ella Meabon's layup, but Syracuse maintained control, closing the quarter with a jumper to lead 24-5.

Colgate's Meabon opened the scoring in the second quarter with a jumper, assisted by Mahaffey. Tatiana Matthews drove to the basket for a layup, followed by Abbey Ferguson, who nailed a three from the top of the key to trail, 30–14. Despite Colgate's efforts, the Raiders struggled to keep pace with the Orange, giving Syracuse an 18–11 scoring advantage in the quarter.

Laila Hankerson and Ferguson contributed an early five points to the Raiders' third-quarter total, but the Orange's offensive fire power hurt Colgate's chances of closing the gap. Midway through the third, the two teams traded baskets. Kennedy Parrott, Mahaffey, and Lara Cook found ways to score for Colgate. The Orange totaled six quick points at the end of the quarter to enter the final 10 minutes with a 64–28 lead.

Syracuse outscored Colgate 24–14 in the fourth. Meabon led Colgate's efforts with a three-pointer and a jumper, but it wasn't enough to close the gap. Syracuse's offense showed versatility on the court, scoring from layups, jumpers, free throws, and beyond the arc. Parrott hit the final jumper for the Raiders, as the team fell 88–42 and recorded its sixth loss of the season.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Raiders' Abbey Ferguson responded impressively, matching a career-high nine points, shooting perfectly from beyond the arc (2–2), and going 3–3 from the floor, including a 1–2 performance at the free-throw line.
  • Cook led the team in steals, contributing two, as five other Raiders tallied one.
  • Colgate falls in the overall series 17–0 against Syracuse.
