Colgate Falls to #2 Ohio State, 5-0

Davis makes career-high 53 saves in net

WASHINGTON, D.C. - A four-goal second frame from No. 2 Ohio State handed Colgate a 5-0 loss at Medstar Capitals Iceplex on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Brooke Davis was solid in goal for Colgate, making several key saves throughout the period. Despite multiple attempts, including shots from Madeline Palumbo and Elyssa Biederman, Colgate was unable to capitalize on their chances.

Ohio State's Genny Klein responded effectively in goal, denying several Colgate efforts. The period was characterized by back-and-forth play, with both teams unable to find the net. A late power play opportunity for Colgate, following a penalty on Leah Wicks of Ohio State, did not result in a score. The period ended scoreless at 0-0.

Colgate started the second period with a power play opportunity after a penalty on Ohio State's Maxine Cimoroni, but could not convert. Ohio State capitalized on Colgate's penalties, scoring three power-play goals during the period. Kassidy Carmichael netted the first at 14:16, followed by Sanni Vanhanen's even-strength goal at 10:28 and another from Carmichael at 5:55. Vanhanen sealed the period with a last-second power-play goal, leaving the score at 4-0 in favor of the Buckeyes as the period concluded.

The Buckeyes widened their lead early in the third period with an unassisted goal by Jordan Baxter at 17:21, marking her second goal of the season. Colgate responded by winning the subsequent faceoff and drawing a penalty on the Buckeyes' Brooke Disher, which initiated a power play. Despite several attempts, including shots by Alexis Petford and Emma Pais, Colgate was unable to convert during the power play.

Later, Colgate had another opportunity when Jordan Baxter incurred a tripping penalty, leading to a second power play. However, the Buckeyes' defense proved resilient, blocking multiple shots including attempts by Casey Borgiel and Dorothy Copetti. The game concluded with the Buckeyes maintaining their shutout, winning 5-0.
