Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Raiders Fall to #3 Michigan State, 4-1

Neumeier nets second goal of the season

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Raiders concluded their two-game road trip to No. 3 Michigan State with a 4-1 loss on Friday afternoon at Munn Ice Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The game began with Reid Dyck active in goal, successfully saving multiple attempts by Michigan State, including efforts from Colin Ralph and Travis Shoudy. Colgate had several offensive opportunities, with Isaiah Norlin and Jack Brandt each taking shots that were saved by Trey Augustine. Despite a power play opportunity following a penalty on Cayden Lindstrom, Colgate was unable to find the back of the net.

As the period progressed, the Spartans broke the deadlock at 3:12 when Eric Nilson scored with an assist from Shane Vansaghi. Colgate continued to apply pressure, winning several faceoffs and blocking shots from the opposition. However, the first period concluded with the Spartans leading 1-0.

Colgate gained momentum midway through the second period when Michael Neumeier scored a power-play goal at 14:16, assisted by Tyson Doucette and Norlin, narrowing the Spartans' lead to 2-1. This goal came after the Spartans had extended their lead to 2-0 with a goal by Daniel Russell just 38 seconds into the period. Despite Colgate's efforts, including multiple shots on goal, the Spartans responded with a power-play goal from Ryker Lee at 12:07, bringing the score to 3-1. The period ended with the Spartans leading 3-1.

The third period saw Colgate unable to capitalize on multiple power play opportunities against the Spartans. Dyck made numerous saves as the Spartans pressed forward. A power-play goal by Russell at the 5:51 mark extended the Spartans' lead. Colgate's efforts to close the gap fell short, and the period concluded with a 4-1 final score in favor of the Spartans.

GAME NOTES
  • Michael Neumeier scored his second goal of the season.
  • The Raiders netted their 14th power play goal of the season and improved their power play percentage to 21.5%.
