Cox earns first yearly honor as Alekseyenko claims second of the season

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Colgate Raiders swept the conference's weekly awards, with Jalen Cox named Player of the Week and Andrew Alekseyenko earning Rookie of the Week honors for the second consecutive time. 

The team concluded the week with a 1–1 record, highlighted by the thrilling win over Siena and a closely contested 95-94 double overtime loss to Cornell.

Cox, a junior guard from Los Angeles, California, has been recognized as the Player of the Week. During this period, Cox scored a total of 46 points, averaging 23 points per game and leading his team in scoring. 

Notably, he delivered a game-winning buzzer-beater in a 72–69 victory over Siena, a play that was featured as the top play on ESPN Sports Center. Cox demonstrated his versatility on the court with a .500 shooting percentage from the floor and an 8-9 performance from the free-throw line. Additionally, he contributed nine rebounds, seven assists, and five steals throughout the week. 

Alekseyenko, a first-year forward from Brookline, Massachusetts, has been named Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week. Alekseyenko scored the second-most points on the team this week with 46, averaging 17 points per game. 

His performance in the double overtime loss to Cornell was marked by several personal bests, including three-point field goals made (2), blocks (3), steals (1), and minutes played (36). Alekseyenko shot .481 from the floor and improved to .583 in the victory over Siena. He also contributed nine rebounds, five assists, and four steals to his team's efforts.

Colgate (2–4) will travel to Laval, Quebec, to compete in the Northern Classic over the Thanksgiving Break. The Raiders will will open the tournament against UAlbany on Friday, followed by matchups with SUNY Oneonta on Saturday and Fordham on Sunday.
