HAMILTON — Colgate outshot Lehigh 15-4, including 10-0 in the second half, but neither team could find the back of the net in a 0-0 scoreless draw on a cold and rainy Friday night at Beyer-Small '76 Field.
Colgate found one of its better chances late in the opening stanza. Conor Geraghty struck a low ball on target from the center of the box but it was saved. A scrum in front of the net led to a corner kick for Colgate, but the ensuing header was wide left, ending the threat for the Raiders.
Eric Widrick stopped the only two shots he faced in the first half for the Raiders, who went into the intermission scoreless at 0-0. Colgate with better offensive possession held a slight 5-4 advantage in total shots, while strikes on frame were even at two apiece after the first 45 minutes.
Colgate completely controlled the second half possession from the get go. Ryan Schachter ripped a shot off the crossbar from the left side and Conor Geraghty's follow-up header sailed just over the net. Moments later, Blake Pipkin forced a save on a hard shot from the left side of the 18-yard box.
The Raiders outshot Lehigh 10-0 in the final 45, but none were closer than Colin Hughes' spinning header that redirected a set piece inches over the crossbar. Moments later in the 85th minute, Drew Stephans' bullet from 30 yards out forced a remarkable all-out diving save by Anton Kinnunen.
Colgate continued to play in the attacking third but its final two shots of the night were blocked and the horn sounded with neither side finding the back of the net.
