ITHACA, N.Y. - The Raiders fell 5-0 against Cornell at Berman Field on Tuesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Colgate applied early pressure and generated three corner kicks within the first three minutes. Connor Smith had an opportunity on goal, but his shot was saved by Cornell University's Ryan Friedberg. Colgate maintained a strong defensive stance, with Eric Widrick making key saves against the Big Red's attempts, including two shots from Westin Carnevale.
As the half progressed, Colgate continued to challenge Cornell defensively, with Otto Bourne taking a shot midway through the half. Widrick remained pivotal, denying several efforts, including a save in the 43rd minute. The first half concluded with both teams locked at 0-0, as Colgate's defense held firm against the host's attacks.
Widrick made a critical save against Sergio Zapata in the 47th minute to keep the score within reach. However, the Big Red's Adam Schaban found the net shortly after, putting the home team ahead 1-0.
Cornell capitalized on their offensive pressure, with Carnevale doubling their lead in the 53rd minute. Despite Colgate's defensive efforts, Cornell's Aidan Martin extended the margin to 3-0 around the 60th-minute mark.
As the half progressed, Cornell continued their attack, scoring two more goals to increase their lead to 5-0. Colgate's Widrick remained active, adding several saves to his tally, but the team was unable to find the back of the net. The second half concluded with Cornell maintaining their 5-0 advantage.
