First-year wins 500 Free to help Colgate finish second

HAMILTON – Led by five podium finishes on Saturday, the Colgate men's swimming and diving team finished second out of three teams competing in this weekend's Colgate Invite at Lineberry Natatorium. The Raiders scored 773.5 total points, just edged out by UMass (1,119) for first place.

COACH PRETRE'S COMMENTS

"The Raiders had an outstanding weekend, marking what is undoubtedly the strongest season start during my time with the program. Following the first few weeks of intense training in Rocktober, the team overcame fatigue and illness to deliver exceptional performances across the board. Despite the challenges, our athletes demonstrated resilience, focus, and execution when it mattered most. This weekend serves as an extremely promising starting point — and it's clear there is no limit to what these teams can accomplish this season."

HOW IT HAPPENED

First-year David Brophy continued his stellar weekend by picking up Colgate's lone victory on Saturday. He touched the wall in 4:45.50 in the 500 Free, securing his third victory of the weekend by more than seven seconds.

Michael Granin, after taking second in the 200 Free on Friday, grabbed a third-place finish in the 100 Free on Saturday. The sophomore turned in a time of 47.32, just over a second behind the leader. Connor O'Neil also earned a podium finish in the 200 IM, clocking in with a third-place time of 1:59.45

Colgate's 400 Free Relay squad of Granin, Brophy, Jack Lira, and Jack Schurtz-Ford brought home a second-place finish, closing out with a time of 3:10.56. On the diving board, Nick Pomo led the Raiders with a third-place finish in the 1-Meter, securing a score of 265.20.
