HAMILTON - A five-goal third period spotlighted by an
Alexis Petford go-ahead goal with just over five minutes left, helped the Raiders earn the weekend sweep over No. 14 Boston University with a 4-3 win on Saturday night at Class of 65 Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Despite a series of shots by Colgate's Avery Pickering and Elyssa Biederman, Boston University's goaltender, Michelle Pasiechnyk, remained firm, keeping the puck out of the net. The first frame concluded with both teams scoreless, as Colgate maintained consistent pressure but could not break through Pasiechnyk's defenses. The period ended 0-0.
Emma Pais led Colgate to a strong second period, capitalizing on a key opportunity at 12:23 to put Colgate ahead 1-0. The goal was assisted by Casey Borgiel and came after a series of saves by Brooke Davis, who kept BU off the scoreboard despite their early pressure.Â
Colgate extended their lead in the final moments of the period with another goal by Pais at 19:43, this time assisted by Alexia Aubin. The period closed with Colgate in control, leading BU 2-0.
BU scored two goals in the first seven minutes of the third frame to tie the game at two apiece. Despite the pressure, Colgate held their ground and regained the lead with a goal from Borgiel at 12:22, assisted by Madeline Palumbo. The lead was short-lived as BU equalized again with a goal from Sydney Healey at 6:36.
Colgate responded swiftly, and Alexis Petford netted the decisive goal at 5:29, assisted by Taylor Senecal, to pull ahead 4-3. Despite BU's efforts, including pulling their keeper in the final minutes, Colgate's defense, supported by key faceoff wins, held firm. The period concluded with Colgate securing a 4-3 victory.
