HAMILTON – The women's tennis team sees its first action of the spring on Saturday where Colgate heads to Stonehill for its season opener in search of their fourth-straight winning season.
"I'm looking forward to the women's season and hopefully our fourth consecutive winning season," head coach
Bobby Pennington said. "We return our entire starting six from last season and add two high quality first-years. We came within a single point of the outright four seed last year and are hungry for much more. The ladies are the deepest team I have coached in my 19 years as anyone can beat each other on any given day. A couple highlights for the year are for first time ever playing all eight Patriot League schools, many more home matches, and hosting the league tournament."
The squad is led by its two senior captains,
Addie Eklund and
Eliza Podlas. Eklund looks to build on her stellar 2024 spring season where she won 12 singles matches. Podlas also had a strong season, teaming up with sophomore
Avery Isaac for a team-leading 13 doubles wins.
Overall, the team had very strong performances in the fall, especially at the Bloomsburg invite, where they finished 44-7. At the Colgate Invite, sophomore
Sophia Montero and junior
Amelia Galin teamed up to take the top flight doubles championship.
Other notable returners from last spring included sophomore
Gigi Bohan, who finished with 11 singles wins on the year, sophomore
Carina Cristobal, who had eight singles wins, and junior
Sasha Herman, who picked up seven wins. Sophomore
Paige Rothwell rounds out the talented returning class for the Raiders.
The new additions to the program, first-years
Anya Kunar and
Rebecca Hess look to add some youthful firepower to the squad.
The Raiders will take the courts for the first time this Saturday at 2 p.m. in Easton, Mass.
