Men's Soccer Battles Navy to 2-2 Tie

Aidan Wright scores first career goal to equalize in 76th minute

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Aidan Wright scored his first career goal to equalize in a 2-2 draw at Navy Saturday afternoon.

The Raiders outshot the Midshipmen 12-8 and had 10 corners in the game.

"I am happy to have earned a result on the road and that the guys did so coming back from behind. Every point is important in such a competitive league, and we are in a good position after three games," said head coach Erik Ronning.

"The second half today was really positive. We played on the front foot the entire half and scored a good team goal to equalize. Our team pushed hard to score the winner, but Navy made some excellent defensive plays to keep the game tied," he added. "Now it's time to turn our attention to a key home game next weekend by having a strong week of training."

The scoring started early, with both teams netting a goal in the opening 13 minutes.

Blake Pipkin got Colgate on the board in the fourth minute. Wright intercepted a Navy pass in the Raiders' attacking end and played a pass to Pipkin, who dribbled into the box and slotted a shot past the keeper. The first-year has now scored in all three Patriot League contests this season.

The Midshipmen knotted the score at 1-1 just under seven minutes later when Nate Stewart fired one from outside the box that pinged off the left post and into the back of the net.

Navy took a 2-1 advantage in the 41st minute with a goal from Charlie Kriel.

Wright, who was back in his home state, tied the score at 2-2 with 16 minutes left in the second. Connor Hearn took a shot that got blocked by a defender, and the rebound bounced to Wright, who fired it home.

The Raiders had multiple opportunities to pull back ahead in the late stages. Colgate earned its 10th corner in the 84th minute following a shot from Cason Stafford.

Mason Pahule took a rip from the center of the box a minute earlier that nearly went in if it wasn't for a kick save from the keeper. Colgate had another corner in the 76th minute that it could not convert.

Wright tried to curl one into the top right corner in the 68th minute on a shot from outside the box, but he put it wide. The Raiders had back-to-back corners in the 64th minute that they could not get a shot off from.

During the first half, Colgate earned a free kick that deflected out of bounce for another corner in the 44th minute. With time winding down, Pipkin played the corner into the box and found the head of Julian Di Lucia, who put it just wide.

Hearn had a good look in the 21st minute when he took a rip that landed off target.

The Raiders had two chances to add to their lead following their first goal. Colgate had a free kick from a dangerous spot in the 11th minute that led to a corner kick, but it could not capitalize. The Raiders also had a corner three minutes into the contest.
