Pipkin's Late Goal Earns Colgate a Draw

First-year scores in 82nd minute to tie American, 1-1

HAMILTON — A late goal from Blake Pipkin earned the Raiders a 1-1 draw against American Saturday afternoon at Beyer-Small '76 Field.

"I am proud of our team for showing the resilience needed to comeback from a deficit again to get a result. Our team fought hard, and we had some key contributors off the bench who gave us a big boost, especially in the second half," said assistant coach Tim Stanton.

"Today was a good lesson for our team - we executed our game plan very well apart from a few moments, and American punished us for that by scoring a good goal. It takes 90 minutes of focus to win games at this level. There is a lot for our team to build on from today's performance, and we are excited to compete next weekend."

Pipkin scored in the 82nd minute to level the score at 1-1. Aidan Wright played a lofted ball from the center of the field that Pipkin settled and dribbled into the box before slotting a shot into the left side-netting.

American took the initial 1-0 lead in the 36th minute when Troy Elgersma found the back of the net.

Colgate had numerous other chances to put one in throughout the game. In the 75th minute, the Raiders earned a corner that dropped in the box but could not find it. Shortly after, the ball got played back into the box, and Julian Di Lucia placed a shot wide.

Pipkin also had back-to-back opportunities. In the 69th minute, he dribbled from the right side into the center of the field and took a rip from outside the box that got saved. Three minutes later, he did the same getting into the box, but the attempt got blocked.

The Raiders were awarded a free kick in the 62nd minute but could not quite get a foot on it. Mason Pahule also had a look in the 59th minute when he fired one that got blocked.

During the first half, Wright fired a shot in the 22nd minute that got blocked, leading to a Colgate corner, but it could not capitalize. The Raiders also had a corner in the 13th minute.

Colgate had three shots in the opening 15 minutes. Pahule fired one that got blocked in the 10th minute and two minutes after Cason Stafford had the same happen. Stafford had another chance 16 seconds later, but he put it over the goal.

The Raiders finished the game with a 9-3 advantage in shots.
