COACH LANGEL'S COMMENTS
"Our guys made a lot of shots early in the game. Our inside play got us to a lot of those shots – and then we went back to the inside for the second half. Super physical game tonight. Coach Jones is very competitive and they've always played competitive games against us. They're a physical team that presents challenges for us. Miles Brewster played terrific for them.
"Hard-fought game on the road in what's always a loud atmosphere. Just another really good team performance for us. I'm proud of the resolve and togetherness to get the win tonight when it wasn't our overall best performance. We found a way to sustain and get over the hump."
HOW IT HAPPENED
Colgate led for most of the night but BU's last gasp cut the margin to 61-60 on the heels of an 11-2 run with 4:23 remaining. The winning sequence – Moffatt drove inside for a layup on Colgate's next possession, then a blocked shot and two free throws from Records – ignited an 11-0 countering burst for the Raiders, who stretched the lead back to 72-60 with 35 seconds left.
The Raiders held Boston U to four points over the final 4:23 to seal their eighth straight win, 74-64.
Colgate built an early lead and held it for the entirety of the first half. Moffatt canned three quick triples, along with another 3-pointer from Brady Cummins leading to a 12-6 Colgate advantage. Boston U closed within 12-11 before back-to-back layups from Records and Jeff Woodward sparked an 11-5 counter in which the Raiders were 5-for-6 from the field to push the margin to 23-16.
Colgate scored only two points over the final 5:31, but the defense led by three steals from Smith held Boston U to one make in its last 11 attempts from the field. Smith's layup with 2:40 to go gave the Raiders their largest lead, 32-22, and Colgate went into the locker room holding a 32-24 advantage.
Records scored Colgate's first 11 points of the second half. Six minutes into the frame and he matched Boston U's scoring output. He made his first five attempts from the field, including a three-point play on an offensive rebound to keep it an eight-point margin 43-35 with 14:19 showing.
Boston U's first surge in the second half cut the margin to 53-49 with more than eight minutes remaining. Baker calmed the crowd with back-to-back treys, and then he swished a tough pull-up jumper in the lane to quickly put the lead back in double digits, 59-49, with 7:27 left on the clock.
The Terriers made one final run and closed within 61-60 before Colgate made key plays on both ends of the floor down the stretch to seal the 74-64 triumph.
