Brodie's Buzzer Beater Lifts Colgate, 59-55

Four-Point Play as Time Expires Seals Improbable Road Win

LEWISBURG, Pa.Alexa Brodie hit a 3-pointer from the left corner as time expired to lift the Colgate women's basketball team over Bucknell, 59-55, Saturday evening.

Taylor Golembiewski's calm jumper inside the elbow tied the game at 55-55 with six ticks remaining in regulation. Bucknell called a timeout, advancing the ball into the front court, and Madison Schiller stole the inbound with 0.9 seconds on the clock to completely flip the script.

After a Colgate timeout advanced the ball, Golembiewski's inbound found Brodie open in the corner. Brodie pulled up from the arc and swished the game-winning trey right in front of her bench as the horn went off. She was fouled on the shot, sending the Raider bench into a frenzy, and completed the four-point play to seal the improbable 59-55 victory.

This is the first time Colgate has swept the season series over Bucknell since the 2003-2004 season.

COACH ADEDUNTAN'S COMMENTS

"What a win, that was a tough, gritty win. At the end of the day I always say to my players, players make plays. As coaches we put them in the right situations, I just felt like we made the big plays when it really mattered.

I commend the way we started the game, locked in to our game plan and we executed. Props to Sophia Diehl, who was ready to go from the start. Really proud of how she played, our post players, how they played, and again our toughness.

It's hard to win and it's especially hard to win on the road and Bucknell has been playing really well lately so for us to beat them here on their home court means a lot to us. We were in a really rough stretch and I think we are battle tested. We have seen a lot of different things, been close in a lot of those games, and to be able to pull one out like this is huge for us."

HOW IT HAPPENED

Colgate led by as many as six points in the fourth quarter after a Brodie jumper made it 46-40 with 9:45 left in regulation. The Bison chipped away, eventually tying the game at 49-49 with less than four minutes remaining. The teams traded shots down the stretch, setting the stage for Brodie's late heroics.

Four of Brodie's 10 points came after the horn sounded. She was one of three Raiders in double figures, led by Sophia Diehl who netted a double-double with a team-high 18 points and 13 rebounds. Golembiewski finished with 13 points on 5-of-6 from the field.

Diehl scored seven points in the first quarter and Colgate finished the quarter on a 5-0 run to give the Raiders a 12-8 advantage after one. Four different scorers led a 8-0 run at the start of the second quarter to give Colgate a 10-point advantage before Diehl ended a Bucknell run with a 3-pointer to finish the half up, 26-18.

The Bison used an early third-quarter run to get within one until the Raiders caught fire. Schiller hit a three sandwiched between two deep 3-pointers from Amarah Streiff giving the Raiders a 41-36 lead. Diehl hit another three just before the end of the third giving Colgate a 44-40 lead.

The Raiders shot 43.4 percent (23-for-53) from the floor and 50 percent from three (8-for-16). Colgate held the Bison to just 16.7 percent (1-for-6) from three and zero bench points.
