Colgate Secures Win Over Lafayette, 75-49

Ten Different Scorers Lead Raiders to Third Straight Win

HAMILTONTiasia McMillan's 10-point first quarter set the trend of the night for the Raiders as they beat Lafayette 75-49 on Wednesday evening at Cotterell Court.

Amarah Streiff scored eight of her career-high 13 points in the fourth quarter, shooting 75 percent (3-for-4) from downtown.

The Raiders had 10 different scorers and shot 50 percent from the floor (28-for-56).

This is the first home win for the Raiders as well as the first time scoring 70+ points since their Jan. 13 win over Bucknell. Colgate is also now 2-0 wearing pink for its annual Play4Kay game.

COACH ADEDUNTAN'S COMMENTS

"Tiasia was ready to play from the beginning. To see her go 8-for-9 and 2-for-3 from the free throw line and set the tone offensively is great. Lafayette can be very challenging at times and try to dictate the type of shots you're getting. For us we want to try to get shots inside out and I thought we did a really good job of passing the ball around. You gotta make the shot so we were able to confidently step up and take them.

"Just great performances all the way around. Morgan is a huge loss for us and we recognize that and the conversation was who's gonna step up and they all raised their hand to say 'I'm gonna do a little bit more'. There's a lot Morgan brought for us, not just with her ability to score, but the passion she has is really contagious and you're seeing that. You have seen it in our first year Amarah Streiff with her intensity significantly going up here in the last couple weeks, so couldn't be prouder that we are matching our words with our actions."

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Raiders started the game on fire scoring 10 unanswered points led by the pair of captains Alexa Brodie and McMillan. McMillan scored six straight including an old-fashioned three-point play. Brodie dropped in two quick jumpers giving Colgate the start it was looking for. McMillan added two more jumpers at the end of the quarter pushing the Raider advantage to 18-6 after one quarter.

Colgate continued to roll in the second quarter with Ella Meabon hitting a slick step-back jumper and McMillan tacking on a layup giving the Raiders a 23-6 lead. Abbey Ferguson and Streiff joined the party at the end of the half with Ferguson laying in a bucket and Streiff hitting her first of three treys on the day giving Colgate a 34-17 lead at the half.

Madison Schiller picked up where Colgate left off hitting a triple to begin the second half. Sophia Diehl netted a jumper off a Brodie dish to give the Raiders their first 20-point lead of the night. The lead got to as many as 21 with a Taylor Golembiewski free throw just before the end of the third quarter and the Raiders took a 51-32 advantage into the final frame.

After a Lafayette run, Streiff finished what was a textbook press break executed by Colgate, the layup was Streiff's first two-point bucket of her career. Streiff stayed hot hitting two more 3-pointers to put the final nail in the coffin lifting the Raiders to their third consecutive victory and the season sweep over Lafayette, 75-49.
