Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Dylan Rippe

Raiders Lose Nailbitter, 64-61

McMahon Ties Season-High 20 Points

HAMILTON – The Colgate women's basketball team suffered a loss to Loyola Saturday afternoon, falling 64-61 at Cotterell Court.

Morgan McMahon equaled her season-high 20 points and matched her career-high nine free throws made in loss.

COACH ADEDUNTAN'S COMMENTS

"They rallied there, tough one, wish we had a couple more minutes in the game.

Lex is a great player, one of the best players in our league. The goal was to throw different things at her, not allow her to get in rhythm and I think we did that. I thought we did our job with her. They made some big shots and that's something I thought Loyola was doing in the last couple games. Supporting cast was really stepping up and getting it done for them.

Pace was great, but didn't love our defense in the first quarter. Felt like if we just kept bringing the intensity and effort then we would be able to get stops and our defense was better in the second quarter.

Nice to have our alums back, they are the ones with the 2004 banner, a bunch of those players from that class are back and we have other alums too who have done a lot for Colgate women's basketball. To have a lot of girls in the stands today looking to our players as mentors. The game is great and teaches you so many things, so I appreciate the atmosphere we had today and thank you to the people who came out to support us."

HOW IT HAPPENED

In a game that saw 12 lead changes and 14 ties, Colgate started hot with Taylor Golembiewski hitting back-to-back jumpers as the Raiders trailed 17-15 after one quarter of action.

Madison Schiller hit a three early in the second quarter to give Colgate its first lead of the afternoon. Both defenses picked it up in the second quarter leading to a tight game at half with Loyola edging the Raiders, 26-25 with 20 minutes remaining.

An early second half run from Loyola saw them lead by six before McMahon scored six straight Raider points to cut the deficit to three. Colgate used a 7-0 late third quarter run to take a 42-40 advantage but Loyola was able to answer, leading to a 46-46 game heading into the final frame.

Alexa Brodie's jumper with 6:46 left in the game gave the Raiders the 54-53 lead, however this was the last time Colgate would have the advantage, eventually falling 64-61.

Tiasia McMillan finished with 14 points and two rebounds, Golembiewski netted 12 points with two rebounds.
