Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Dylan Rippe

Colgate Falls to Army, 55-52

Brodie Finishes With Game-High 17 Points

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Colgate women's basketball team lost a close game to the Army Black Knights, 55-52 at Christl Arena on Wednesday morning.

Alexa Brodie scored a game-high 17 points and added four assists.

COACH ADEDUNTAN'S COMMENTS

"If you look at the stat sheet, it's the same situation as our last game. I did feel like we fought and did not wait, as it went in the first game. Obviously a lot of physicality and aggressiveness. I thought there were moments we threw punches and we were resilient through. At the end of the day you have to take care of the ball and take your opportunities. We missed a lot of opportunities to get chances. Our defense was good enough to help us win, our offense wasn't.

We keep learning and we have been learning a lot. We will learn from the things that didn't go well, but there was a lot of good in this game. I need the players to keep remembering there is a lot of good even despite some of the not-so good. But we will turn the page, reflect on this one and then give it our best shot on Saturday."

HOW IT HAPPENED

The game began fast with both teams trading blows. After five minutes played Colgate led 12-11 but ended up trailing 13-12 at the end of the first quarter.

Army used an early run to take a six point advantage. Madison Schiller and Ella Meabon each scored jumpers at the latter stages of the first half to cut the halftime deficit to 24-20.

Taylor Golembiewski scored an old-fashioned three with a bucket-and-one to get the Raiders within one point early in the third quarter, however after a number of fouls Army remained four points ahead going into the final frame.

Sophia Diehl hit a deep 3-pointer to begin an early Colgate run where they took the lead, 41-39. Morgan McMahon scored a jumper before Brodie hit one from behind-the-arc to give the Raiders their last lead of the morning, 46-45 with five minutes left. Army finished the game with a number of free throws and the Raiders fell, 55-52.

The Raiders offense was led by two double-digit scorers, Brodie (17) and McMahon (10).

Diehl grabbed 9 boards and added seven points. Tiasia McMillan scored eight points and added eight boards.
