COACH ADEDUNTAN'S COMMENTS
"Really exciting to play in front of people, so shout out to our department for setting this up and getting the local community out to support us. It was a great atmosphere and exactly what you want to play in front of.
[The start of the game] wasn't us and we knew that they were going to be aggressive and hungry for a win. We were just a little passive and that was the word I kept using. Just not being us and it took us a little bit of time to get going and we did. We got going, we were being us, getting stops and being disruptive. We just didn't finish it but I'm proud of our bounce back, they kept playing, they kept fighting and that's all I could ask for.
[About the last second play call] In that situation, if we have numbers we are going to try and go, instead of stopping the clock and letting them set up their defense. There were times throughout the game it was tough for us to get what we wanted. We just didn't make plays. At the end of the day, you have to be able to make plays both on the offensive and defensive end. I thought we did get some good looks, but we just weren't able to knock them down.
The key is for us to have pride in our defense and we didn't start the game that way. We allowed them to get things, they were winning every 50/50 in the first half and we started winning some in the second half. That's what we have to pride ourselves on. We didn't take that many steps back today. We took a step back in the first half but we have to make sure our identity starts at the defensive end of things."
HOW IT HAPPENED
Colgate started slowly allowing Army to jump out to an early 15-7 lead after the first quarter.
Taylor Golembiewski hit a 3-pointer to start the second quarter to spark a small momentum shift cutting the deficit to just four, but by halftime the Raiders remained behind 30-22.
Colgate started the second half hot with a 9-2 run, eventually tying the game with a Golembiewski three. Ella Meabon hit a layup with 2:08 left in the third quarter to give Colgate its only lead of the afternoon. However, a last second bucket from Army meant the Black Knights went into the fourth quarter up 40-38.
The final frame saw the Raiders tie the game off a Christina Midgette layup with 5:42 left but ultimately never could find a go-ahead bucket.
The Raiders offense was led by Golembiewski (15), Meabon (9), Alexa Brodie (8), and Tiasia McMillan (8).
Meabon led the team in rebounds for the second consecutive game finishing with six. Madison Schiller led the team with three assists.
