HAMILTON — Sacred Heart scored three straight goals in the second half in a 4-2 defeat of Colgate Friday afternoon at Tyler's Field.
The Raiders got on the board first with a goal from
Rachel Alderfer, which was her first of the year. After the ball got loose in front of the goal,
Alice Walton tapped to Alderfer, who fired a shot into the cage to make it 1-0 Colgate with 7:21 remaining.
The Pioneers tied the game up three minutes later when Isabel Chamberlain found the back of the cage.
Walton notched her first goal of the season to put Colgate back ahead with 12:12 remaining in the third.
Aaliyah Linfoot passed to an open Walton in front of the goal and the sophomore finished off a shot from close up.
Sacred Heart then scored three straight goals. Madelyn Kidd tallied a goal with 8:50 left in the third to knot the game back up at 2-2. With just over six minutes remaining, Kidd notched her second of the game to put the Pioneers ahead for the first time. Aine Keaney finished the scoring when she put one in less than three minutes later, making it 4-2.
In the first, Colgate had several chances to score as the Raiders had eight shots, six of which were on target.
At the end of the quarter,
Ella Murphy had attempts saved. The senior logged six shots in the game, five of which were on frame.
Bronwen Rees-Wiedemann then had back-to-back shots stopped, including one on a defensive save.
Colgate continued to attack throughout the game, earning a penalty corner in the second and third quarters and two in the fouth. Murphy had two shots saved in the third. She and
Chase Cmaylo also had good looks in the fourth quarter, but neither could convert.
Claire van Kempen made four stops in net for the Raiders.
