Richardson Named Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Historic League Honors Continue for Richardson

HAMILTON – Tucker Richardson completed the Patriot League sweep of major awards when he was announced as the 2022-23 Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Wednesday afternoon.

Richardson became the first player in Patriot League history to be named Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and Rookie of the Year in a career. Now, with the addition of Scholar-Athlete of the Year, he holds a record that can't be broken – only tied.

The Flemington, N.J., native graduated in December with a 3.43 cumulative grade point average as a sociology major. Richardson's well-documented work as a student-athlete includes a wealth of experience on campus, in the classroom, and in the community.

With classmate Simon Gerszberg, Richardson co-produced the ShotQuality podcast and co-created the software program that analyzes in-game basketball statistics currently used by more than 50 NCAA Division I men's basketball programs. Currently, the SQ Twitter handle (@Shot_Quality) has more than 28,000 followers.

Furthermore, Richardson has been an active member of Colgate's sidekick program. This mentoring program pairs student-athletes with local children from Hamilton Central School to introduce an "inside look" at what it means to be a Division I student-athlete at Colgate.

On the court, Richardson can find his name all over the record book. The program's all-time leader in assists, steals, and games played, he ranks in the top 10 in scoring, rebounds, and three-point field goals made. Richardson, a fifth-year senior, is the first player in Patriot League men's basketball history to reach 1,500+ points, 700+ rebounds, and 500+ assists.

To be eligible for the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-Patriot League awards, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average as an undergraduate and graduate (if applicable) and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Nominees must have completed at least one academic year at their institution.
