Raiders Sweep Lehigh on the Road

Colgate women's basketball swept Lehigh for the first time since the 2003-04 season

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – For the first time since the 2003-04 season, Colgate swept Lehigh after topping the Mountain Hawks 63-51 on the road.

After trailing by a point at halftime, Colgate scored nine straight points with 3:11 left of the third to take and hold the lead for the remainder of the game. The Raiders shot over 53 percent in the quarter, going 8-for-15 from the field. Sophomore Taylor Golembiewski scored 8-of-19 Raider third-period points.

Golembiewski paced Colgate with 22 points, followed by Morgan McMahon (11). Freshman Christina Midgette scored a career-high 10 points to round out the double-digit scoring. First-year Lara Cook captured a team and career-high five rebounds to lead the defense.

An early 6-2 third-period Lehigh run pushed the Mountain Hawks ahead 35-32. Midgette drew a foul to end the burst and start Colgate's 9-0 streak.

McMahon kept the offense going, scoring a three-point play to give the Raiders a two-point lead. Midgette and Golembiewski then scored back-to-back field goals to push Colgate ahead by six with 4:22 left of the third.

Lehigh scored a pair of free throws to slash the Mountain Hawk scoring lull, but the Raiders answered with another 6-2 run to end the third ahead 47-39. Golembiewski scored back-to-back field goals, and McMahon sank a jumper with five seconds on the clock in the run.

Junior Tiasia McMillan opened the final stanza with her first field goal of the game to give the Raiders their first double-figure lead of 10 points. Both teams went to the foul line to keep the deficit at double-digits, with Colgate on top 51-41.

Cook and McMillan scored back-to-back layups to continue the Raider offense and push the lead to 14 points. Lehigh broke up the Raider run that lasted for 3:07 with a layup, but both teams drew fouls and scored two free throws apiece with 2:14 left of the fourth.

Golembiewski and McMillan scored four straight points to push the lead to its largest margin of 16 points at 61-45. Lehigh went on a 6-2 run to end the game, but it was too late for a comeback as the game closed with the Raiders on top 63-51.

FROM THE SOURCE
Head Women's Basketball Coach Ganiyat Adeduntan

"I could not be prouder of our team tonight. The way they started and sustained the whole 40 minutes. It was a complete team effort. We executed our game plan and played with intensity and toughness that stayed the entire time. I'm especially proud of how our freshmen came out. They played and contributed in different ways.

"Christina played well tonight. Madison continues to be steady, but to have Taylor come in and see the ball go in more than she has recently. She started the game with the tenacity to defend and make it hard for Lehigh.

"Winning is not easy, as I have said before, especially on the road. Hands down to my team for coming in, being resilient, and pushing through to find a way to win this game
