Women's Basketball Splits Series with Bucknell

Bucknell topped Colgate 50-44 on the road

HAMILTON – Colgate women's basketball split the regular season series with Bucknell. The Raiders dropped a close 50-44 contest at home.

After being down 36-35 at the end of the third, Bucknell scored six unanswered points early in the fourth to take the lead for the remainder of the game to win its fifth straight contest.

Sophomore Taylor Golembiewski scored her 17th double-figure game after leading the offense with 12 points today. Junior forward Tiasia McMillan was behind Golembiewski with 10 points to round out the double-digit scoring. Freshman Christina Midgette captured a career-high seven boards to lead the team's defensive efforts.

The Raiders shot 50 percent from the field in the third quarter, making nine field goals to lead after 30 minutes of action. With 2:22 left of the third, Colgate went on a 10-1 run highlighted by a jumper from senior Alexa Brodie with two seconds on the clock to lead 36-35 at the end of the quarter. Golembiewksi, McMillan, and freshman Madison Schiller scored a basket apiece, while Brodie scored a pair in the run.

Bucknell went on a 6-0 run early in the fourth to lead 41-37 with 5:43 on the clock. Golembiewski drew a foul to break the run with a pair of free throws to cut the lead to two points, but the Bison responded with three quick points. McMahon sank a three-point play to cut the deficit to 44-42, but the Bison scored three straight free throws to lead by five points with 1:58 left in the fourth.

McMillan scored a layup to cut Bucknell's lead to three points with 1:44 left of the game, but two late fouls on the Raiders allowed the Bison to score three free throws to end the game ahead 50-44.

"It's been a special weekend for us celebrating women. We celebrated 50 years of athletics at Colgate. It was our Alumni Weekend, and we also celebrated National Girls and Women in Sports Day today. So, today we wanted to play for the little girl in us when everything was fun and free. I felt like there were moments when our players played freely, but unfortunately, we didn't get the outcome we wanted, but it was still a very special weekend.
