Raiders Push Past Dolphins

Colgate Uses Late Fourth Quarter Run to Defeat Le Moyne 65-57

HAMILTON – The Colgate Women's Basketball team willed itself to victory Friday evening at Cotterell Court, as it used a late fourth-quarter run to push past Le Moyne, 65-57.

"We talk about taking good shots – moving the ball, finding the open player, and not forcing anything. I thought we did a good job of that tonight. We grew from the last game we played and showed a lot of resiliency today in moments where maybe our shots weren't falling," said head coach Ganiyat Adeduntan.

In a back-and-forth battle with the visiting Dolphins, the Raiders' seven-point halftime lead dwindled down to just two points when the game entered the fourth quarter. A jumper from in-tight gave Le Moyne a 51-50 lead with 6:17 to play, but then Colgate put the hammer down. The
Dolphins did not score for the following 5:35 of game time, and nine unanswered points on the other end of the floor, which included a three from Madison Schiller to cap the run with 1:01 to play, served as the dagger.

Le Moyne stopped the run with 42 seconds to play in the game to cut the margin to six, but Alexa Brodie was a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe in the final minute to snuff out any thought of a comeback. The four free throws were part of Brodie's 16 points on the evening, which topped the Raiders.

After the hosts carried a two-point lead through 10 minutes of play, the Dolphins claimed their first lead at 22-20 midway through the second quarter, but they did not get out on top again until just before Colgate's defining 9-0 fourth-quarter run.

Sophia Diehl narrowly missed out on her second career double-double thanks to 10 rebounds and 8 points. The 10 boards mark a season-high for the junior, and it's the most for her since the 2021-22 season when she had 12 at Navy. She also tied her single-game career-high with a pair of blocks to set the tone defensively.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Taylor Golembiewski also finished in double figures scoring for Colgate, as she notched 14 points for her fifth game of the year with at least 10 points. She also snared four rebounds and had a pair of assists.

Christina Midgette topped all players with three steals on the night and has averaged nearly a trio of thefts per game over her past three outings. Brodie, Diehl, and Morgan McMahon all tied for the game-high with three assists.Tiasia McMillan flirted with a double-double on the evening as she closed the contest with six rebounds and eight points.

UP NEXT
Colgate is not in game action again until after finals week on Dec. 18, when it travels to New Britain, Conn., for an 11 a.m. tip against another NEC foe, Central Connecticut.
