Raiders Roll Past Vermont State

Baker Leads Six Double-Figure Scorers with 17

HAMILTON – Colgate capped off its final non-conference game home game with a 115-37 victory over visiting VTSU-Lyndon on Wednesday evening at Cotterell Court.

All 12 Colgate players who dressed found the scoring column, led by Chandler Baker (17) and Parker Jones (16). Kyle Carlesimo (15), Sam Wright (15), Brady Cummins (14), and Julian Scott (10) also finished in double-figures with Colgate-high performances.

COACH LANGEL COMMENTS

"All games take a little bit of a feeling-out process. The group that started took a little too long to play to our standard. Eventually we corrected some things over the course of the first half, moved the ball, and made enough shots to get some separation.

"We had a few good days of practice and this is a difficult time for our guys academically. Our guys want to be good. They're trying hard to learn, listen, develop, and become the best team that we can be. Tonight was just another good step in the right direction."

HOW IT HAPPENED

Colgate carried a 25-0 run over 7:50 of game time to take the lead for good. Baker scored 11 points during the run, including a pair of cuts to the basket and a 3-pointer. Cummins capped the burst with a slam dunk to stretch the lead to 27-6 with 7:54 left in the first half.

Vermont State Lyndon started the game with a 6-2 lead on a pair of 3-pointers from Calder Horowitz-McCadden and Peyton Olsen. Their next points didn't come until Mondwell Bukle connected from long range with 7:44 showing in the opening stanza.

First-year S. Wright scored nine points in nine minutes, including a pair of triples. Colgate closed the first stanza on a 14-0 surge, ignited by another dunk from Cummins and bookended with a driving layup from Jones to give the Raiders a 52-15 lead at halftime.

Baker started the second half with another spark, knocking down a pair of triples in a 13-4 run. Cummins also completed a three-point play and Colgate's lead ballooned to 72-21 after back-to-back fastbreak layups off of steals from Jalen Cox and Cummins.

Jones found a groove in the second half, connecting on a pair of 3-pointers in a 15-3 surge. The first-year finished with a career-high 16 points, 14 of which came in the second half.

With six total players in double-figures, Colgate shot 56.4 percent from the field (44-for-78) and connected on a season-high 15 treys, finishing 15-of-33 from behind the arc en route to the victory.
