Box Score SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Colgate men's soccer team conceded an early goal in the 13th minute that proved too much to overcome for the Raiders in a 1-0 loss to the No. 18 Syracuse Orange. Senior goalkeeper
Andrew Cooke's three saves kept Colgate in the tightly-contested non-conference battle while senior captain
Adam Fam and junior forward
Timmy Donovan logged the Raiders' two shots on goal.
The Orange controlled the tempo early, netting the lone score of the night just 12 minutes and 36 seconds into the game after registering the first four shots. The Raiders rallied, however, holding firm on the back line despite being outshot 9-2 in the first 45.
Fam tallied the first shot attempt for Colgate in the 22nd minute, but Colgate's best scoring opportunity came in the closing minutes of the first frame when Donovan created some space 15 yards from the goal. Freshmen defender Connor Cates collected the pass and put a strike on net, but Syracuse goalkeeper Jahiem Wickham made the save.
Syracuse continued to control the pace of play with intense defending, and the Raider offense struggled without leading scorer Aidan Davock to apply pressure in the offensive third. In the highlight of the second frame for Colgate, Fam broke through the Orange backline, earning a great look at the net from 10 yards out. The strike off his right foot just missed, however, deflecting off the post and dropping the Raiders to 3-7-1 this season.
