Defending Champs Picked As Preseason Favorite

Records, Moffatt Garner Preseason All-League Recognition; Raiders Picked First in Poll

HAMILTON – Colgate Men's Basketball's sustained success is in line for another good year if the Patriot League preseason poll has any indication for how the season is going to pan out.

Fifth-year senior forward Keegan Records swept the major awards as the Preseason Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, while fifth-year forward Ryan Moffatt was also named to the five-player Preseason All-Patriot League team.

Colgate was the unanimous pick at the top of the poll with the maximum number of first-place votes by the league's head coaches and sports information directors. The Raiders received 162 total points with 18 first-place votes. Lehigh was picked second with 127 points.

Records is coming off All-Patriot League First Team and All-District honors after setting the Patriot League record for the best single-season field goal percentage (.675), which ranked in the top five nationally. He is the only returning All-Defensive team player in the Patriot League.

The South Kingstown, R.I., native averaged 13 points and 6 rebounds per game while leading Colgate to its third consecutive Patriot League championship. He tied his career high with 25 points in a road win at Navy and reached the 1,000-point milestone in a win at Lafayette.

In the Patriot League tournament, Records averaged 18.0 points and was 23-of-28 from the field (.821). He finished the season with two double-doubles, 22 games in double-figure scoring, and led the team in rebounding 11 times.

Moffatt's career three-point shooting percentage (.441) ranks third in Patriot League history and puts him second nationally among active Division I players. He is coming off a year in which he averaged 10.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.5 steals per game en route to All-Patriot League Third team honors. Moffatt shot 45.3 percent from deep in 2022-23.

The Lancaster, Pa., native shared the team lead in points (13) with Records in Colgate's NCAA tournament first-round game against Texas. He led the team in scoring 11 times with 18 games in double-figures, including a season-high 21 points against Duquesne.

Colgate is coming off a season in which it broke the program record for total wins (26) and set the Patriot League record with 17 conference wins, finishing 26-9 overall and 17-1 in league play. The Raiders return three starters from last year's squad under reigning Patriot League Coach of the Year Matt Langel entering his 13th season at the helm.

The 2023-24 season begins on Monday, Nov. 6, when the Raiders host Brown at 7 p.m.
