HAMILTON — Goals from
Mari Kniezewski and
Dani Palmer helped Colgate to a 2-1 win over Bryant in its home opener at Tyler's Field on Friday.
Palmer scored her third goal and second game-winning goal of the season four minutes into the third to put Colgate ahead 2-1.
Ella Murphy dribbled into the shooting circle and fired a shot that was saved by the goalkeeper. The ball got loose and hit a couple of sticks before Palmer found it and fired it into the cage.
Kniezewski scored just over six minutes into the game. Off a penalty corner, she ripped a shot that got deflected and went past the Bulldogs' keeper to make it 1-0 Raiders. Murphy picked up an assist on the goal.
Anna Unger started off her strong nine-save performance with seven stops in the first half. With just over two minutes remaining in the first quarter, Unger made back-to-back saves on shots from in close, as she denied the Bulldogs on two decent scoring chances.
Bryant equalized just three minutes into the third quarter. Taryn Rauff intercepted a Raiders' pass and dribbled into the shooting circle before firing a long shot that beat Unger.
The Raiders had several other scoring chances in the second half, including a pair of penalty corners, but they could not convert on either. Colgate finished with a total of three corners in the game.
Murphy and Palmer each recorded a shot in the second half, both of which were blocked.
Bryant finished with a 13-8 lead in shots. Four of Colgate's shots in the game landed on target.
