HAMILTON – Men's soccer kicked off Patriot League play against a strong Boston University squad under the lights of Beyer-Small '76 Field on Friday night. A trio of goals from
Ethan Harris,
Nick Steed, and
Max Edelstein carried the Raiders to a well-deserved 3-0 win.
Harris made the most of his short time in the first half, finding the back of the net off a pass from
Mason Pahule and
Bobby Foose in the 44th minute.
Steed found the back of the net with ease, dribbling the ball into the box before firing one past the keeper in the 63rd minute. Edelstein scored less than two minutes later, lasering the ball from 30 yards out.
Colgate started out with rapid pace, running all over the field, finding multiple scoring opportunities and firing two shots within the first 20.
Head Coach
Erik Ronning went to his subs early, bringing on a handful of players to create offensive momentum. The change of momentum worked as Harris headed one past the netminder, with Pahule and Foose collecting the assists. The Raiders' late first half goal was enough to carry the 1-0 lead into halftime.
Colgate came out on fire to start the second half, with a pair of seniors in Steed and Edelstein finding the back of the net midway through the second half. The Raiders continued their pace, backed behind strong play from
Andrew Cooke.
Cooke continued to show out, making multiple saves to keep things at 3-0 and coming up big in the final 15 minutes. Ronning looked to his bench, bringing on fresh legs to keep the pace of play at an all-time high.
As play winded down, the Raiders walked away with a huge win over Boston University to open up league play.
