PRINCETON, N.J. — A four-goal first half led Princeton to a 4-2 victory over Colgate on Friday evening.
The Raiders struck early off a goal from
Ally Giovino.
Demi Maroudas threaded a through ball into the box for Giovino who broke free and slotted a shot into the back of the net.
Princeton answered back with four goals in a span of just nine minutes.
Heather MacNab scored a header off a corner in the 10th minute. She then struck again with another header goal off a cross in the 15th minute. Two minutes later, MacNab completed the hat trick when she finished a shot off a rebound.
Kelsee Wozniak made it a 4-1 game when she found the back of the net in the 19th minute.
Maddie Cappillo cut the lead back to two in the 25th minute when she ripped a shot from about 35 yards out that curled into the bottom left corner of the goal to make it 4-2.
The Raiders had a chance to make it a one-goal game with five minutes left in the first half. Giovino had a breakaway chance, but pressure from the Tigers forced her to take a tough shot.
In the 58th minute,
Ana Schremp and
Emily Amano had scoring opportunities, but both had their shots denied by the Tigers' goalkeeper.
Amano also ripped a shot from outside the box in the 81st minute that sailed just off target.
Colgate's final chance came in the 89th minute. Maroudas fired a shot from outside the box that got bobbled by the Princeton's goalie and led to a Colgate corner kick. Off the corner kick, the ball fell loose in the box before finally being cleared out by the Tigers.
The Raiders fired nine shots in the game, including six shots on goal.
Grace Poncsak finished with four saves in net for Colgate.
