USA Basketball Release

HAMILTON, N.Y. – USA Basketball announced its coaching staff for the 2022 USA Basketball Men's U18 National Team on Friday and Colgate Head Coach Matt Langel was named a member of six-person training camp staff.

Langel will assist as a court coach during training camp, aiding in on-court skills and drills. Tad Boyle (Colorado) was named the national team's head coach and he will be assisted by Mike Boynton Jr. (Oklahoma State) and Leon Rice (Boise State).

Rob Lanier (SMU) and Tommy Lloyd (Arizona) join Langel on the training camp staff. All coaching selections were made by the USA Basketball Men's Junior National Team Committee.

In 2021-22, Langel became the winningest head coach in Colgate men's basketball history and guided the Raiders to their third Patriot League championship in four years with a 23-12 overall record and 16-2 conference record.

Since 2018, Colgate is 86-34 overall and 54-12 in the Patriot League. That stretch includes three 20-win seasons, three Patriot League regular season championships, three Patriot League tournament titles, and three NCAA tournament appearances.

Colgate's overall win percentage since 2018 (71.7%) is the 19th best in the country, and the win percentage against conference opponents during that time span (83.3%) is fourth best in the country.

Colgate has been a No. 14 seed in each of the last two NCAA Tournaments, the highest seed in program history.

Langel and the USA Basketball U18 team will compete this summer at the 2022 FIBA U18 Americas Men's Championship following a training camp in Houston. The U.S. won gold at the 2018 FIBA U18 Americas Championship and has won gold at nine of 11 FIBA Americas U18 Championships since the event's inception in 1990.
