Klatsky Named Head Coach at NYU

Former Men's Basketball Assistant Spent 11 Years in Hamilton

HAMILTON – Former Colgate men's basketball assistant coach Dave Klatsky has been named the head coach of New York University, an NCAA Division III program in New York City.

Klatsky has been at Colgate every step of the way with head coach Matt Langel. The two were teammates on championship teams at Penn before arriving in Hamilton in 2011 and helping ascend Colgate Basketball into a program perennially competing on the national stage.

"My 11 years at Colgate have been unforgettable," Klatsky said. "I'm so thankful for Coach Langel and the opportunity, friendship and mentorship he's given me and my family.

The growth of the program and the championships have been extremely rewarding and joyous but it's the players and people along the way that made my experience better than I could have ever imagined."

Colgate's three 20-win seasons have all come in the last four years, including a program-record 25 victories in 2019-20. The only outlier during that stretch was the shortened 2020-21 season, which saw the Raiders finish 14-2 en route to another Patriot League title.

"We are so excited for Dave, Abby and the boys to begin the next chapter of their journey," Langel said. "To reflect back on the 11 years we spent together working to help make Colgate Basketball what it is today fills me with too many thoughts and emotions to share in a quote.

"Most importantly though is gratitude. Dave poured every bit of himself into Colgate and our student-athletes. In working alongside him,  he's made me better at every aspect of my job. I am so thankful for our time together and his friendship.

Our team, program and community will surely miss the Klatsky's, but they will forever be a part of our Colgate Basketball family and we very much look forward to cheering on NYU Basketball!"

The Raiders this past season captured their third Patriot League championship in four years behind a 23-12 overall record and 16-2 conference mark. Since 2018, Colgate is 86-34 overall and 54-12 in the Patriot League, which includes three NCAA tournament appearances.

"I'm honored and excited to bring to NYU the level of excellence that Colgate fans have come to expect," Klatsky continued. "It's going to be hard to leave the players, staff and Hamilton community but my family and I are extremely grateful to all those who made our time here so special."
