Colgate Caps Non-League Slate at Cornell

Raiders Drop Both Ends of Doubleheader, 7-1 and 12-4

ITHACA, N.Y. – The final six games of the regular season are the ones that matter most.

Battling for playoff seeding, Colgate currently sits in fourth place and the top four teams make the Patriot League tournament. Fortunately the Raiders' last six games of the regular season are against Lehigh and Army, the two teams immediately in front of them in the standings.

Colgate wrapped up its non-conference schedule with a pair of tough losses at Cornell on Tuesday evening. The Raiders dropped both ends of the doubleheader, 7-1 and 12-4.

Game 1 | Cornell 7, Colgate 1

Cornell scored three in the second and four in the fifth to pull away for the series-opening victory. Colgate scratched a run across in the sixth but it was too little too late for the Raiders.

A defensive miscue with the bases loaded in the bottom of the third allowed three Cornell runs to score. Bailey Misken struck out the side but the damage had already been done. Lilly Travieso's two-run double capped a four-run fifth and stretched Cornell's lead to 7-0.

Misken struck out six and allowed six runs (one earned) on three hits in 4 1/3 innings. Colgate's run came in the top of the sixth when Steph Jacoby brought home Jillian Herbst on an RBI groundout. The Raiders couldn't cash in again and dropped the opening game, 7-1.

Adrienne Nardone, Kara Fusco, Morgan Farrah, and Rachel Carney registered Colgate's four hits.

Game 2 | Cornell 12, Colgate 4 (5)

Colgate staged a two-out rally to erase a three-run deficit in the third. Four straight two-out hits, including RBI knocks from Farrah and Nardone, tied the game at 3-3. Fusco walked and then Quinn Livesay was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to give the Raiders a 4-3 lead.

Meaghan Houk also blasted her second home run of the season in the four-run inning.

The Raiders held the 4-3 lead until Cornell rattled off nine runs in the bottom of the fifth. The final five runs were scored with two outs, and a walk-off three-run home run by Hannah Crist reached the eight-run limit with the Big Red completing the 12-4 victory.

Colgate finished the game with eight hits, including two apiece from Herbst and Fusco.
