Colgate Splits Twinbill at Lehigh

Raiders Eye Series Win Sunday After 7-4 Victory in Game 1

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Colgate and Lehigh split their series-opening doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Raiders took the first game 7-4 before dropping the nightcap 9-1.

Adrienne Nardone had a big day at the plate with four hits and five RBIs on the strength of a pair of home runs. Steph Jacoby and Morgan Farrah also had multi-hit days, combining for six hits and five RBIs. Bailey Misken earned her ninth win of the season in the circle in Game 1.

Game 1 | Colgate 7, Lehigh 4

Colgate wasted no time jumping on the board in the opener. With two outs in the top of the first, Jacoby poked a single up the middle to keep the inning alive. One batter later, Nardone cranked a two-run homer over the wall in center field to provide the Raiders an early 2-0 cushion.

After working around two singles in the bottom of the first, Misken didn't allow another runner to reach scoring position until the fifth. With Amanda Greaney on third base and one out, Misken induced a groundout and a flyout to keep the two-run lead after five innings.

Lehigh staged a two-out rally in the home half of the sixth. An error kept the inning alive, and then back-to-back two-out RBI singles from Brooke Cannon and Karsen O'Rourke tied the game at 2-2. Misken worked out of further trouble to keep the game knotted after six innings.

The Raiders went right back to work in the top of the seventh. Jillian Herbst and Farrah posted back-to-back RBI singles before Jacoby followed up with an RBI double. Nardone capped the finishing touches with a two-run triple to stretch Colgate's lead to 7-2.

The Mountain Hawks added two in the bottom of the seventh, but Misken grabbed a game-ending 6-4-3 double play to secure the series-opening 7-4 victory.

Nardone was Colgate's catalyst offensively, finishing 3-for-3 with four RBIs and a run scored. Misken worked a complete game and picked up the win in the circle, scattering 10 hits and two earned runs with a pair of strikeouts in seven innings.

Game 2 | Lehigh 9, Colgate 1 (5)

Lehigh did most of its damage in the third inning of the nightcap, batting around and scoring six runs on five hits to open a substantial 6-0 advantage. The two teams were scoreless through the first two innings and Kaitlyn Borruso was coming off a 1-2-3 bottom of the second frame.

Nardone continued her hot hitting with her second home run of the day in the top of the third before the Mountain Hawks tacked on three runs in the home half of the inning. It was 9-1 in favor of the home team before Mia Edwards provided the final out of the frame.

Lehigh's three runs in the bottom of the fourth were enough to seal the five-inning victory. The  Raiders couldn't add a run in the top of the fifth and dropped the second game, 9-1.

Jacoby, Nardone, and Rachel Carney had Colgate's three hits in the game.
