Licata’s Overtime Goal Lifts Colgate Over Holy Cross

The Raiders won their first overtime game of the season

HAMILTON, N.Y. – In what was a back and forth game all evening, Colgate's Lucy Licata provided all the excitement needed on Wednesday at Crown Field at Andy Kerr Stadium.

Licata scored the game-winning goal less than one minute into the first overtime period to lift Colgate (4-11, 3-4 PL) over visiting Holy Cross (5-9, 2-5 PL), 16-15.

The goal was Licata's third of the game and came on free position. The Raiders' claimed the draw control that opened the overtime period when Sarah Harding recovered the ball for her 12th draw of the evening. Licata was then fouled and set up for the free position on the left side of the goal.

The overtime was the first for each team this season.

Colgate's Cara O'Reilly, the reigning Patriot League Midfielder of the Week, poured in  career-best five goals and gained seven draw controls.

Devon Maillet added four goals in the victory for the Raiders. Her fourth goal tied the score at 15-15 with 3:10 remaining in regulation. That goal came after O'Reilly scored her fifth 6:56 left in the quarter that gave Colgate a 14-13 lead.

Olivia Lynch picked up her second victory in as many games in goal for the Raiders. She stopped 12 shots.

Eliza Soutter chipped in with a goal and three assists for Colgate.

Colgate led 4-3 at the end of the first quarter. The Raiders had goals from Kyra Lucey, Licata, Lauren Marandett and Maillet.

Colgate rattled off four straight goals early in the second quarter to take an 8-5 lead. Two goals by O'Reilly and goals by Maillet and Licata sparked the run.

The Raiders held a 10-7 lead at the break. The final two goals of the half were scored by O'Reilly and Lucey.

Holy Cross scored the first three goals of the third quarter that knotted the score at 10-10. Less than a minute later, O'Reilly put her fourth goal of the evening into the back of the net to give the Raiders the lead back.

The Crusaders scored the final goal of the quarter to make it 11-11 at the end of the third.

Colgate won 27 of the 35 draw controls and took 29 shots on the goal. Holy Cross managed 27 shots on goal.
