HAMILTON, N.Y. – The madness is here.

Top-seeded Colgate is set to host second-seeded Navy Wednesday night in the PenFed Union Patriot League Men's Basketball Championship Game with a trip to the NCAA Tournament on the line. Tipoff from Cotterell Court is 7:30 p.m., with the game airing on CBS Sports Network.

Colgate is making its fifth consecutive appearance in the Patriot League championship, while this is Navy's first title game since 2001. The Raiders are 2-2 in the Finals since 2017-18 and are looking to make it back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances.

SETTING THE SCENE
Colgate and Navy meet in the Patriot League championship for the third time overall and first time since squaring off back-to-back years during the Adonal Foyle era in 1993-94 and 1994-95. The teams split those two matchups. Colgate won the second one, 68-63, for the program's first conference championship in 1994-95.

The Raiders swept the 2021-22 regular season series, first beating Navy 69-50 in Annapolis on Jan. 13 before coming away with a thrilling 74-69 triumph in the regular season finale in Hamilton on Feb. 26. The five-point victory was a two-point margin in the final minute but the Raiders sealed the deal from the free throw line to secure the Senior Day triumph.

AGAINST NAVY IN THE POSTSEASON
Colgate and Navy meet for the 73rd time in a series that began in 1950-51. The two teams are 1-1 all-time in Patriot League championship games but have not faced each other in the Final since back-to-back years in 1993-94 and 1994-95. The Raiders clinched the program's first championship with a 68-63 title victory over Navy in 1995. This will be the ninth meeting between the teams in the Patriot League Tournament. Colgate is 6-2 all-time against Navy in the postseason, including 5-0 in Hamilton. The Raiders have won the last four head-to-head postseason meetings, most recently in 2019 when the Raiders won 80-70 in the semifinals at Cotterell Court. Head Coach Matt Langel is 18-5 all-time against Navy.

Jack Ferguson for the second straight game led the Raiders in scoring with 17 points and Colgate knocked off Lehigh 81-61 in the semifinals on Sunday. Jeff Woodward scored 11 points and led the team in rebounds (7), assists (5), and steals (3). The Raiders used a 16-2 run midway through the first half to take the lead for good. The margin was never closer than 11 points in the second half. Colgate made its last 11 free throw attempts to seal the victory.
