Softball Drops Doubleheader at North Alabama

Fusco Leads Colgate with Three Hits in Spring Break Twinbill

FLORENCE, Ala. – Colgate dropped both ends of Sunday's doubleheader at North Alabama, falling 12-3 in the opener and 10-2 in the night cap.

Kara Fusco finished the day with three hits and an RBI, while Quinn Livesay drove in a pair of runs. Jillian Herbst recorded two hits, a walk, a run scored, and an RBI in the doubleheader.

Game 1 | North Alabama 12, Colgate 3 (5 Inn.)

North Alabama didn't waste any time in Game 1 with six runs in the home half of the first. The Lions sent nine batters to the plate and five hits including two home runs to open a 6-0 lead.

After North Alabama scored three runs in the second inning and three more in the third, the Raiders got on the board with three runs of their own in the top of the fourth. Fusco scored Taylor Ludwick all the way from first on an RBI double down the right field line. Livesay kept the inning alive with a two-run double to center field scoring Alexis Romero and Claire Whalen.

Colgate used a pair of walks to load the bases in the top of the fifth, but a fielder's choice ended the game in the fifth inning with the Lions holding on for the 12-3 final.

Game 2 | North Alabama 10, Colgate 2 (6 Inn.)

Another big first inning saw North Alabama plate six runs. A three-run double by Brooke Burback did most of the damage and the Lions built an early 6-0 lead in the first frame.

North Alabama struck for two more runs in the second inning before Colgate scored twice in the top of the third. Herbst scored Elizabeth Nitka on an RBI single to right field and Herbst later scored on an infield single from Rachel Carney to cut the deficit to 8-2.

The Lions tacked on a run in the home half of the fifth and added one in the sixth to end the game after six innings with the 10-2 victory.
