Colgate Locks Down Lafayette For Seventh Straight Win

Records’ Double-Double Highlights 69-61 Home Victory

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Keegan Records continued to have the hot hand and this time posted a double-double to lead the Raiders past Lafayette 69-61 for their seventh straight win Monday night at Cotterell Court.

Records' first double-double of the season featured another standout performance with 21 points, 10 rebounds, three blocked shots and two assists. He finished 10-of-14 from the field.

Tucker Richardson scored 14 points and had nine rebounds, and Ryan Moffatt posted 10 points, two assists, two rebounds, and one steal.

Both teams shot the ball well with Colgate at 53% (31-of-58) and Lafayette not far behind at 47% (27-of-57). The game was back and forth from start to finish but the Raiders made just enough plays to distance themselves and secure their seventh consecutive win.

Colgate got off to a shaky start with turnovers on four straight possessions after Records worked inside for a bucket. That allowed a 6-0 Leopards run and they eventually connected on five straight from the field with a 3-pointer from Jon Brantley pushing the visitors in front 16-9.

Moffatt sparked the Raiders with back-to-back triples and then it turned into a three-point shooting contest with each team connecting on five of their first nine from behind the arc. Richardson swished one and Oliver Lynch-Daniels hit another to tie things up 29-29.

Colgate took its first legit lead 33-31 on a slam dunk by Records with 5:41 left in the half. The final stretch of the half was back and forth all the way to the buzzer as the Raiders still led by two at the intermission, 38-36. Lynch-Daniels was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field in the half.

The two teams were still trading buckets eight minutes into the second half. Lafayette tied it with the first basket of the second half but the Raiders reclaimed the lead with a jumper from Richardson on the next possession. It was still a two-point margin 50-48 at 12:40.

Records just took over late in the game. He scored 12 of his 21 in the second half and 28 of the team's 31 points in the final stanza came from the paint.

Colgate's lead grew to as many as nine and never trimmed to less than five over the final seven minutes. More big minutes from Sam Thomson and Jeff Woodward contributed to the second-half standoff and the Raiders stood tall down the stretch to preserve the 69-61 triumph.

HOME SWEET HOME
Colgate improved to 9-1 at home this season and the Raiders are 60-8 at Cotterell Court over the last five seasons.

FROM THE SOURCE
Head Coach Matt Langel

"Lafayette definitely threw the first punches. Ryan Moffatt really carried us in the first half offensively. He made some big plays and some big shots, but we were not sharp. With as many games as we've been playing with as little time as we've had to practice, that is to be expected at a certain point. We can't play defense the way we were in that first half. They were hitting a lot of shots. In the second half we picked up the intensity for sure. We gutted out a hard-fought win tonight."

"Keegan Records just keeps getting better. He always wants to be coached and he's always looking for improvement. He's also now one of the older big guys in the league. He's playing so well that it's hard to take him off the court."

"I've known Coach O'Hanlon for a long time. As successful as he's been and as much of a genius offensive basketball coach he is, he is even a better person. The young men who have played for him are very fortunate to have had him for this whole time."
