BALTIMORE – Oliver Lynch-Daniels scored a career-high 24 points in leading the hot-shooting Raiders to a 101-67 league-opening win over Loyola Friday night at Reitz Arena.
Colgate shot 67 percent from the field (39-58), 61 percent from behind the arc (14-23), and registered 27 assists on 39 made field goals – all season-high productions.
Lynch-Daniels' 24 points came on 8-of-11 from the field and 6-of-7 from behind the arc. He led four Raiders in double figures, followed by Ryan Moffatt (16), Braeden Smith (15), and Chandler Baker (14).
Smith had an efficient night with career-high nine assists and three steals to go with 15 points. Richardson added eight assists and three steals.
Colgate built an early lead on the strength of a 12-0 run over 2:16 of game time. Lynch-Daniels swished three treys and then two steals from Smith helped turn a 12-9 Raider lead into a 24-9 advantage in the opening stages of the half.
Moffatt swished his first two attempts from behind the arc and Baker converted a three-point play. Jeff Woodward highlighted the defensive end with a pair of blocked shots, and a steal by Moffatt turned into a fast-break layup for Lynch-Daniels, who led the Raiders with 16 at the break.
Colgate outscored the Greyhounds 17-2 in points off turnovers in the first half. The Raiders shot 65 percent from the field (22-34) and 53 percent from the arc (8-15) en route to their highest-scoring half of the season and a 55-29 halftime lead.
Loyola scored the first six points of the second half but Colgate's shooting halted any comeback attempt. Moffatt, Lynch-Daniels, and Baker were all 2-for-2 from downtown in the second half, and the Raiders shot a blistering 71 percent over the final 20 minutes.
All 10 Raiders found the scoring column, including key minutes down the stretch from Sam Thomson, Nicolas Louis-Jacques, and Alex Capitano.
FROM THE SOURCE
Head Coach Matt Langel
"We've been disappointed with the results over the past few weeks. We've been working hard and playing more connected on both ends of the floor. We certainly showed more of that tonight and the results came with it. Our defense was very good, and that led to offense, which has been a staple for us over the years but not so much for us yet this year.
"We need to put this one behind us and get ready for Lehigh up next. There's not a lot of turnaround time for these early-season games, but they're all equally as important. This is a great opportunity for us to go on the road and be locked in."
NOTES
- Colgate's 55 first-half points were a season-high for any half, besting its 48 in the first half at Binghamton.
- The Raiders extended their winning streak to 16 straight against conference opponents.
- Tucker Richardson is seven assists away from tying Jordan Burns' all-time record of 503.
- Richardson needs 20 points to become Colgate's 10th player in program history to score 1,500 career points.
