HAMILTON – Colgate women's basketball kicked off the 2022-23 season with a 62-48 win at home against Ivy League foe Cornell.
Sophomore
Taylor Golembiewski scored a career-high 22-points in the Raiders' win over the Big Red.
Colgate started the game hot, going on an 8-3 run right out of the gate. Two three-pointers in the eight points scored came from Golembiewski.
Cornell broke up a 4-0 Raider run with a layup to trial the Raiders by only five points.

Christina Midgette had the Raiders leading 16-7. Back-to-back layups from each team had the score 18-9.
The Raiders led 20-12 going into the second quarter. Ten-of-32 points scored came from the charity stripe.
Back-to-back layups by each team started the second quarter. An elongated 6-4 Cornell run had the Big Red trail by only four points, with the Raiders leading 26-22.
Taking offense to Cornell cutting down their lead, the Raiders went a 5-2 run with a minute remaining in the first half to lead 37-28 going into the break.
Colgate came out of halftime with momentum scoring six unanswered points to lead 43-28. Cornell got on the board for the first time in the second half after a defensive rebound.
With a little under four minutes left in the third, both teams scored a combined 11-points, with the Raiders tallying 6-of-11 points. Colgate held the Big Red to only seven points in the third quarter, leading 49-35 going into the final 10 minutes of play. 3-of-7 Cornell points included their only three-point field in the game.
Cornell caught an offensive spark, going on a 4-0 run to start the fourth quarter to trail the Raiders by only 10-points. The Raider snapped the run with a layup by Golembiewski, but Cornell got the 10-point deficit right back with their layup.
A layup and free throw trimmed the Cornell deficit to single digits as the Big Red trailed 51-44. A 5-0 Raiders run by Brodie and Golembiewski bumped Colgate's lead up to double-digits again to squash any hopes of a Cornell comeback.

Morgan McMahon and Brodie put the nail in the coffin, snapping a one-game skid against the Big Red. Nine-of-13 Raider fourth-quarter points came from Brodie and Golembiewski.

- Madison Schiller, Midgette, and Nicole Parks made their collegiate debuts.
- Chidinma Okafor made her division I debut after spending the most recent season at the University of South Carolina Aiken.
- Jenna Paul captured six rebounds for Colgate, a team-high.
- 50-of-110 points scored were in the paint.
- Only two three-point field goals were scored in the second half of play, with each team getting one apiece.
- The Raiders went 9-for-10 at the charity stripe, while Cornell went 9-for-12.

"The effort was there tonight. One thing we're focusing on for sure this year is just going out and playing basketball.
"I'm proud of our returners, they put in a lot of work over the summer, and it showed today. I couldn't be prouder of them. I also felt great about our newcomers. They are each going to play an important role throughout the season.
"We're excited to go to Syracuse. It's going to be a great opportunity for us. We're going to come out and do our best as we continue to get ready for conference play."
