Colgate Gets First Road Win at UAlbany

Raiders Win Back-to-Back Games

ALBANY, N.Y. – Colgate women's basketball won their second consecutive game after crushing UAlbany 55-41 on the road.

Morgan McMahon scored a season-high 18 points in the win over the Great Danes.

UAlbany went on a 5-0 run to open the game. A three-pointer from sophomore captain Taylor Golembiewski broke up the run to get the Raiders on the board.

A pair of free throws from McMahon had the game tied at five. Senior Alexa Brodie then took a trip to the charity stripe to have the Raiders lead by two points for the first time in the game.

UAlbany broke up the Raiders' 4-0 run with a jumper, but Brodie scored her right after to bump Colgate's lead to 11-7. Freshman Abbey Ferguson scored two points, but the Great Danes scored a layup to trail the Raiders 13-9 to end the first quarter.

Chidinma Okafor opened the second with a layup to spark the Colgate offense. The rest of the Raiders kept it going with a 4-2 run that had Colgate leading 19-11. Brodie and Sophia Diehl accounted for the four points scored in the drive.

Both teams took a trip to the foul line, with the Raiders coming out with two points and a 21-12 lead. UAlbany tried to make up for their missed free throw with a jumper, but Brodie scored a three-point field goal to have Colgate leading by 10 points.

The Raiders went on a 6-4 run to close out the first half of play, leading the Great Danes 30-18. McMahon scored 4-of-6 points from the run and 6-of-17 points in the quarter.

Brodie opened the second half of play with a jumper. After almost four minutes of scoreless play, a three-point field goal from UAlbany broke the lull. Colgate went on a 4-0 run to extend their lead to 36-21. McMahon and Tiasia McMillan were credited with the four points scored. The third quarter ended with a 3-2 Raider run, with Colgate leading 39-23. McMahon scored 5-of-9 Colgate third-quarter points.

UAlbany scored the first points in the fourth quarter, but the Raiders answered with a 7-0 run to lead 46-25. The Great Danes broke up Colgate's run with a layup, but McMahon sank a three-pointer as a warning. UAlbany tried to make a comeback, going on a 14-6 run to end the game but could not overcome the deficits they gave themselves in early periods of play.

Head Women's Basketball Coach Ganiyat Adeduntan

"This was such a huge and momentous win for our program. I couldn't be prouder of our toughness and fight, which started right at the beginning of the game.

"It was great to see so many players step up, specifically on the defensive end. They followed our defensive game plan and executed the details we stressed to them.

"I told the team at the end of the game that it was so much fun seeing how hard they played and to understand that winning is hard, especially on the road.

"I am excited about the growth of our team from last year to where we are right now. The growth will not stop. We will enjoy this victory tonight and turn the page tomorrow to start preparing for Canisius on Tuesday.
