HAMILTON — Colgate fell 2-1 to Vermont in a double overtime thriller on Sunday at Tyler's Field.
Julia Jamesley put the Raiders ahead with five minutes remaining in the second.
Ella Murphy fired a shot that got blocked. Jamesley collected the loose ball and slotted a shot into the bottom left corner to put the Raiders up 1-0.
The beginning of the first saw lots of back-and-forth action as neither side could get on the board.
Just over eight minutes into the game, the Raiders earned their first penalty corner, but they could not capitalize on it. Three minutes later,
Bronwen Rees-Wiedemann recorded Colgate's first shot that got blocked by a Catamount defender.
The Raiders had back-to-back penalty corners midway through the first. On Colgate's second attempt, Murphy had a good look at goal and took a shot that got stopped by the goalie.
Vermont came out firing at the start of the second, but
Anna Unger stood strong, making a pair of saves to deny the Catamounts.
With nine minutes remaining in the third, Colgate had another corner from which
Amanda Allen fired a shot, but it landed to the left of the goal.
The Catamounts tied the game up with 3:45 remaining in the third. Alina Gerke played a pass ahead to Reggie Hillery, who dribbled into the shooting circle and fired a shot past Unger to make it a 1-1 game.
The Raiders had a pair of shots in the fourth as Allen put hers wide and
Lily Schoonmaker had hers blocked.
Colgate's defense came up with a pair of stops on back-to-back corners as they prevented the Catamounts from pulling ahead. The game remained tied and went into overtime.
In the first overtime period, the Raiders' defense held strong stopping numerous scoring chances by Vermont. Colgate had two-consecutive corners, but could not score despite a shot from Allen that got saved by the goalkeeper.
Unger came up with a pair of big saves in the second overtime period to keep the game tied. The senior finished with nine saves in the game.
Vermont ended it with just under five minutes remaining in the second overtime. Alina Gerke collected the rebound off her initial shot and fired another one into the back of the cage.
Colgate finished the game with 11 shots, including four on target. The Raiders also tallied eight penalty corners in the game.

Colgate is back on the road Saturday, as it takes on Boston University at 1 p.m. The game will be played at Harvard's field in Cambridge, Mass.
