Raiders Battle Mountain Hawks to 0-0 Tie

Colgate Outshoots Lehigh, But Can't Find the Back of the Net

HAMILTON — Colgate battled Lehigh to a 0-0 tie on Wednesday at Beyer-Small '76 Field.

The Raiders' first chance came in the 13th minute. Ally Giovino was fed a pass in the box and fired a shot into the net, but it got called off as she was ruled offside.

Colgate earned its first corner of the game in the 15th minute, but it could not get anything going as the Mountain Hawks' defense cleared the ball away before the Raiders could get a shot off.

In the 21st minute, Ana Schremp fired a shot that got stopped by the Mountain Hawks' goalie. A few minutes later, Ari Bezanson released one from the top of the box, forcing the keeper to make a save to her left.

Lehigh had three corners of its own in the first, but the Raiders' defense kept strong preventing the Mountain Hawks from getting on the board.

With just under 10 minutes remaining in the first, Schremp ripped a shot from just inside the left corner of the box that nearly found its way into the top right corner, but the goalie tipped it out.

Five minutes into the second, Ellie Stokes played a ball into the box that Bezanson got her foot on and fired a shot, but it once again got saved. Emily Amano and Stokes also fired shots that went high at the start of the half.

The Raiders got their second corner of the game with 15 minutes remaining. Lyna Schaffer played a beautiful ball in that Amano connected with a header, but she did not get enough on it as the goalie stopped it easily.

In the 87th minute, Keeling connected on a header, but she put it just over the crossbar.

Grace Poncsak made a diving save in the 89th minute on a shot from close range to prevent a potential go-ahead goal for Lehigh.

Colgate held a 12-3 advantage in shots, including a 5-1 edge in shots on goal.

Head Coach Lyndse Hokanson

"Every coach would be lying if they said they were content with a tie, but considering the opponent and a midweek game after Saturday's battle, I think generally we'll be pleased to walk away with a point. I thought all in all we had some good moments tonight and for the majority of the game really neutralized a lot of the things that Lehigh likes to do. You saw two teams who really wanted to get a result put their bodies on the line in their defending and there wasn't a lot of budging in either direction, so I'm proud to have earned a shutout and thought the girls deserved it with the work they put in. We'll look forward to a big one on Sunday at American."
