Colgate Falls to Northern Michigan

Tough Battle Ends in 6-3 Defeat

MARQUETTE, MICH.— Colgate scored twice in the second period to tie the game but the Raiders could not keep up with Northern Michigan, falling 6-3 on Saturday.

NMU went up two in the first period with goals from Michael Colella and Hank Crone.

The Raiders quickly tied the game up at the beginning of the second. It started 21 seconds into the period when Matt Verboon found Colton Young who broke free and snuck a between-the-legs shot past the Wildcats' goalie.

Just over a minute later, Jeff Stewart fired a shot from the left faceoff circle that trickled into the goal to make it 2-2 with 18:33 left in the second.

Northern Michigan pulled back ahead when Crone scored his second of the night. Trevor Cosgrove then scored to make it 4-2 Wildcats at the 9:07 mark.

With just over three minutes remaining in the period, Josh McKechney tapped in a loose puck in front of the net to cut the lead back to one at 4-3.

The Raiders went scoreless in the third despite having three power play opportunities in the period.

AJ Vanderbeck tacked on another goal for the Wildcats and Garrett Klee then topped off the scoring with an empty netter for a 6-3 NMU win.

The Raiders finished the game with the advantage in both shots at 38-36 and in the faceoff circle, going 36-66.
